Welcome to Woodstock 2K!

O.K. it isn't really Woodstock. But then again Woodstock has changed in the last 30 years. This is actually the Willamete Valley Folk Fest. For some unknown reason, the UofO feels compelled to have a yearly folk festival on the back lawn of the EMU (student union). Having a folk music fest is just fine if you were in say Atlanta, Pittsburgh or Seattle. Having the UofO sponsor one in Eugene is about novel as having a celebration when it rains. In addition to the "Big One" the Oregon Country Fair, we have about one folk festival a month and every weekend we have the Saturday Market (a one day festival that looks just like the two day ones.) Oh, yeah Phil comes to town (for a show, he owns a house in the south hills) every year too.

The best part is they always have the same bands. They have this strange concept that to promote diversity they can only select local bands and as the quantity is limited they have them again and again. Every once in a while someone new is in the organization and tries to get someone with (might I say talent) "diverse musical tastes." They always get over-ruled when the hippie establishment (oxymoron?) finds out - it happened to a Wes Carrol's band (a friend http://www.housejacks.com)

But since y'all don't see this every day (unless you come visit) and the weather was nice Demaris and I went to the show. As these are mostly crowd pictures we turned the camera loose for big shots. Digital Camera lesson: Big Images are good for crowd shots but make sure to save them at hi res as well, otherwise you lose the faces. I wish I'd learned the "save the big ones at hi res lesson" earlier. As it is only one of the big crowd shots are high res.

Oh, one other note. There are only crowd shots (no individuals) as the camera would destroy the environment when attempting to take pictures of individuals. Even hiding in a crowd, a digital camera stands out pretty badly in a hippiefest. All pictures courtesy of my wonderful wife Demaris and myself.

Small picture of the crowd. 15% hippie, 35% peudo hippie, 20% frat, 10% generic student, 20% Eugene yuppy
