For Demaris's birthday we went to Vancouver. Through
familiarity with the city, Jay was able to identify the hotels offered on
Hotwire based on clues in the reviews and amenities list. So for $60USD/night
Jay and Demaris stayed in a gorgeous 4 Star Hotel with a waterfront view of the
Cruise Ship terminal.

For
dinner we wandered down to Vancouver's restaurant/bar district, Gastown. In the
center of Gastown is a steam clock that whistles on the hour and half hour.

horn.

As usual we walked the town where possible. This is a view of
Granville Island and part of the inner waterway from the Granville Island
Bridge.

Downtown Vancouver as seen from the Granville Island
Bridge.

Granville Island is very similar to Pike's Place Market in
Seattle. It's a large farmers' market surrounded by local merchants and
restaurants. Granville Island is also home to several parks and nature trails,
and there are numerous wandering performers. The Plywood Cup was held on the pier.

Entrance to Granville Island.

Probably our favorite of the wandering performers. It's hard
to beat a string quartet that puts out folding chairs and sets out a violin
case for donations.

For dinner we hit the Candian equivilent of Denny's called
White Spot. They're similar to an
upscale, "nice" Denny's. Similar to the Denny's with lounges that you run
across in beach communities in Florida.
